Behaviour on ski runs
*Respect for others : All slope-users must always behave in such a way that they do not
endanger others nor harm them by their behaviour or their equipment.
*Control of speed and behaviour : All slope-users must adapt their speed and behaviour to
their personal capabilities as well as to the general conditions of the slope, weather, snow
condition and number of other slope-users existing at the time.
*Choice of direction by the slope-users above : The slope-users who are higher up the
slope are in a position which enables them to choose their trajectory. They must always make this
choice in such a way that they do not endanger the slope-users below.
*Overtaking : You may overtake to the right or left but you should always leave plenty of space
between you and the person being overtaken.
*Entering, crossing and starting off from slopes : When entering, crossing or starting off slopes,
all slope-users must look up-hill and down to ensure that they can do so without endangering themselves
or other slope-users.
*Stopping : All slope-users must avoid stopping in narrow places or areas of restricted visibility. In the
event of a fall, they should remove themselves from the slope as quickly as possible.
*Walking up or downhill : Any slope-user who is obliged to move up or downhill on foot must keep to
the side of the slope and ensure that neither he nor his equipment endangers other slope-users.
*Respect for information, signs and sign-posting : All slope-users must respect all information
concerning weather conditions, the condition of the slopes and of the snow. They must respect signs and
sign posting at all times.
*Assistance : Any person who is witness or instigator of an accident must give assistance, in
particular, by giving the alert. Should the need arise, and at the request of the mountain rescuers,
he must be at their disposal.
*Identification : Any person who is involved in, or witness to an accident must identify
themselves to the Piste Patrol (or Emergency Service) (and to any others involved in the
accident).
*The text above is an extrat of a form you can find in ski school and ski lift office.
*Location : To make the emergency service’s job of finding the location of the accident easier
you should given the name and number of the nearest piste marker.
*Inform : If you have a mobile phone the piste patrol number for La Plagne is 04 79 09 67 60.
Otherwise you should inform the nearest lift attendant.
*Off-Piste : Off-piste skiing is dangerous and it is necessary to know the mountains and snow
conditions perfectly. If you are not sure you should employ a guide. The ski school instructors and
guides are qualified to take you off piste and will provide the necessary security equipment.
